1. Make is Specific to the School
The letter of application should state why the applicant wants that specific position at that specific school. Many applicants use the same letter of application for every job that they apply for. If the letter is not proof read properly and contains the name of a different school it is automatically rejected. This will also show that the applicant has taken the time to research the school and the district and that they are interested in the school and not just a job.

2. Address Needs in the School
In this letter the teaching candidate should point out things that they school may need and any ideas that they have to improve the school. School are looking for new teachers that have something to offer them. An applicant does not have to go into great details but they should mention this and how it relates to their skills in the letter of application.

3. Take the time to Proofread
This may sound simple but many applicants do not take the time to thoroughly review their application. Read the letter of application and look for grammatical errors as well as errors with sentence structure. Be sure to run and spelling and grammar check. Also it is wise to have another person look over the letter of application for any of these mistakes before submitting it. The letter should end with a line similar to “ I look forward to meeting you for an interview” and thank the reader for viewing the application.

4. Sell Your skills
Include any and all skill n the application. Include if you speak another language, any musical activities you enjoy, or an coaching experience you may have. This will show you are well rounded and may be able to teach certain clubs and extra activities within the school. These skills will help set you apart from others that are applying for the job.

5. Talk About the Students
Applicants are so busy talking about the skills that they have they often do not mention how they will help the children learn. Include some things about the students and how you are aware of their needs. Also talk about what you are willing to do to meet different learning needs and help the students be successful.

6. Sign Your Application
This may should simple but you need to sign you application in ink.A person reviewing the letter will be able to tell if it was copied and if the letter has been used as a standard letter to apply for several jobs. Taking the time to sign the letter will show that you care enough about this job that you are willing to make this document original.
