LETTER OF APPLICATION FOR PROMOTIONIn writing a letter of application for a promotion, one wants to show what a good job they have done in their present position and how they will continue to be an asset to the company in their new position.

Some things to include in the letter would be:

1. Reliability
2. Promptness
3. Initiative: Seeing where things needed to be done and doing them in a team effort.
4. Dedication to the company
5. The expertise you can bring to the new position.
6. Wouldn’t hurt to brush up on what the new position requires.
7. At any rate, make yourself an employee the company needs and cannot do without. Make yourself invaluable.
8. Be sure to dress for success everyday.

9. Be happy for everyone that something good happens to.
10.Be the leader. Lead by example. The boss is always watching. Be sure your qualifications match your actions.
11.Tell the boss how long you have been with the company. What your progress reports show. Why you want the promotion. How you are the best candidate for the promotion.

What you would do better if you had the particular job. What you would do different if you had the particular job.

Give a digression of the duties involved in the job. Read up on company policy and incorporate it into your letter as how well you follow the company’s rules and regulations. Be the one the boss calls when they need assistance or information about a particular matter related to the work in the office.

Make yourself the boss’s right hand man, lady. Show honesty and trustworthiness. KNOW how to balance a budget and exhibit that in your letter. Be the best, don’t tell your boss you are the best. They are watching.

Exhibit in your letter key points of your current position and how well a grasp and understanding you have for the work you do so they will know you can learn the new job just as well. Be sure to write the letter in today’s business letter form, i.e. Write it in block style, do not indent, type your name, address and date to the left margin, skip a line and type the bosses name and the company address. Skip a line and use the salutation “Dear”, i.e. Dear Mr. … You want your letter to be different and alive. You might start off with: Dear Mr. … I understand there will be a new position opening soon in … Department.

These are the reasons I would be well suited for the job… and go on and have the above facts ready to list. Be direct. Don’t sound squeamish or wishy washy. Know what you want. Know what the boss wants.

Give the boss what he wants in writing. The boss wants to know he can trust you, he can depend on you, you will be prompt if not early, you will be dedicated to the job and the company. He will not have to worry when you are on the job. Remember, these are things you cannot write in your letter.

These are things you must exhibit so that the boss will know before you get there with the letter that he can trust you to do a good job.

Good Luck. I wish you every success. God Bless.
